Virtual Reality Gaming - Everything you need to know about VR Gaming

I really love thinking about the future, how the world's technology will be like after decades and more. I look forward to Virtual Reality and it's integration with gaming. VR is the future of gaming and it's going to be really fascinating. The idea of fully immersing ourselves into the virtual world of games is really amazing and it just blows my mind.

It's 2019 and the progress in VR is going great, we already have amazing VR technology for gaming like the Oculus Rift VR and HTC Vive. These are some best VR headsets available in the market right now and it's getting better every year. Currently the Oculus Rift is considered the best VR headset with other features. Even now you can play really great games using these VR technologies. There are many other headsets too which are cheaper and can be used with a smartphone. Like Samsung's Gear VR and Google Cardboard. Many replicas of the Google Cardboard already exists in the market but they aren't that great for the VR experience like the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive.

Sony's PS4 (Playstation 4) console also has their own VR headset and controllers for virtual reality experience in certain games and apps. Microsoft's Xbox One does not have their own official VR headset but it's very likely they will release it along with the Xbox Project Scarlett coming in 2020.

Right now if you want amazing VR experience, you will require a high-end gaming PC with high specifications and Oculus Rift or HTC Vive. Running games in virtual reality takes a lot of computing power but both Rift and HTC Vive has headsets that can run games on their own without any external console or PC. Oculus Rift S that doesn't need a gaming PC costs $399 while Oculus Rift Quest 128gb costs $499, it requires a gaming PC to run VR games.

Talking about the price of HTC Vive, it's more expensive than the Rift and costs like $599.

Well the VR technology still requires a lot of development and a way to lower the prices of their VR technologies because it's quite costly and not many people can buy it. The cheap version of headsets does not give good experience and it's fun using it for a few hours then it just feels bad.

There are some problems regarding using VR headsets too like feeling dizzy and having nausea. They may also cause headaches and long use can cause eye strain. We are always told by our parents to not sit very close to the TV and the VR headset has actually screen lenses very close to your eyes. They are a couple of inches far away from your eyes. You may also get seizures. Also it just doesn't feel much comfortable. So yeah a lot of development is required in this field.

In Sci-Fi movies and games you see people wearing a headset and they get completely immersed in their virtual world, they can walk, run, jump and do everything they do in real life (physical movements) in the VR world. They also don't feel uncomfortable or face much problems, that's the ultimate goal of VR. To provide fully like-like experience in the virtual world.

Recently I watched quite a few Minecraft VR videos and the possibilities I see in the future are great. There will be a time in future when this technology will improve so much that you won't be able to differentiate between real life and virtual world. I watched a video of a Youtuber doing 24 hour challenge in VR Minecraft and after he was done, he faced illness and other problems. I think dizziness and nausea is one of the most important concern regarding VR gaming and also the damage of eyes for long use. They may not cause permanent damage though, as many research says but it has to be improved for better comfort.

There are hundreds or probably thousands of VR games currently available to enjoy and if you get a VR headset soon, you can play them. However they have limited controls and does not give life-like virtual experience. Oculus says that there will be more than 100 games available on Rift at the end of 2019 and they are constantly improving their technology with better software and hardware.

Recently HTC's VR Vive Cosmos was shown which has 6 cameras, flip up design, detachable headphones and more. It has some brand new tracking systems for better VR features. It will also feature gesture controls and 6 degrees of freedom. It's the next generation of HTC Vive VR. Vive has their own gaming subscription for VR games.

The VR technology in gaming will keep improving in the future and we can expect a better experience.
